FRIDA
FRIDA – Mexican restaurant in Porto
You are in Porto and you are going to eat Mexican food? Surely this is not a question you have asked yourself. But it is a firsthand recommendation I want to give you.
I came to this place by chance. Overwhelmed by the dilemma of eating something completely traditional or looking for some alternative in this emerging neighborhood, I opted for the latter.
“Frida” it is called, and as the artist herself, I find it difficult to leave anyone indifferent. The place has a modern decor and a mural lined with Mexican newspapers of recent years.
Proposing an authentic Mexican menu, this place is not the typical Tex-Mex eatery resulting from the internationalization phenomenon. On the contrary, it is a celebration of the Mexican rich gastronomical heritage.
The ingredients, you don't have to be an expert to know, are top quality. And according to what I was able to talk with João, husband of the owner and chef in charge of the place, Soledad Calvillo, they are often imported directly from Aztec lands, due to the difficulty of finding a local equivalent.
I didn't try the tequila, I'll leave that for the next time. Hopefully for their first anniversary.
